Business Venture: Understanding the Mining Business
Every year, people are digging things out of the earth’s ground and make billions of dollars by doing so. The time, effort and money invested in extracting the earth’s rocks and soil is worth it since the earth contains outrageously expensive and extremely useful minerals. Extraction refers to the collection of oil and gas from the earth’s ground while mining is getting the minerals and ore. Gathering occurs when oil and gas are amassed in wells to prepare them for processing and refinery. If people have not discovered the art and science of mining, then the world would be ground to a halt. If people are not engaged in mining then electricity would fail, anything that uses fuel is gone, and transportation would become redundant, because mining, extracting and gathering are the main reasons why we enjoy the modernization we have today.
Mining is considered an old business which we owe to our ancestors back in the prehistoric times when our ancestors did mining by chipping away at stone, metals and other useful substances. The process of mining involves prospecting for ore, and once it is assessed and the deposit is large enough for generating cash, then heavy machinery such as mining conveyors are used to scoop all ore and minerals, thus reclaiming the land. Oil and gas extraction involves a more complex process wherein they are usually drilled and collected in between layers of non-porous and porous sandstone in order to hit the perfect spot where oil and gas are trapped. If you are planning to enter the mining industry you have to know the people you need to hire who are experts in this field such as miners, site managers, engineers, and technicians. In a mining business, you first need to find the perfect location where you can find coal seam, big oil deposit or ore body. Once you found the perfect spot on your map, then the serious work begins and be ready to earn billions and billions of dollars.
Surface mining and subsurface mining are the two types of mining techniques, and a large majority of ore and minerals are obtained via surface mining accounting for 80% of overall yields. At this point, mining outputs can be categorized into lode and placer deposits, wherein lode deposits are found inside masses or rock or in “veins”, while placer deposits are minerals and ore found in river gravels or beach sands. When it comes to subsurface mining, it involves the construction of shafts and tunnels in order to reach the minerals and ore, and drilling is performed as a more straightforward mining approach in order to get further into the ground. If you want to be involved in a mining business you need to hire a mudlogger, minerals surveyors, quarry manager and well site geologist among others.
